from Emily 12/26
Hi all, today was pretty low key for mom. She just rested and she had a day off from surgery. Thursday at about 1 she will have another surgery. Unfortunately her right food could not be saved and tomorrow afternoon a small portion (not even the whole foot) will be removed, at a later date the bone from that foot will be used to fix her right wrist. Besides that there is nothing new to report. Thanks everybody again -Emily

Ed, Emily and the entire Barclay family,
Words cannot sum up how we feel, but we will do our best, and in that way, it is fitting that we are connected to Marta through our book club, at least in that one way. We are both so sorry, but we know that Marta is so strong in spirit and all other ways, so we will keep the faith and expect her recovery. That doesn't mean there isn't a ton we can do to help, and we appreciate so much this blog to stay connected. I want to make sure you all know how much you are in our prayers. Thank you for ensuring we can all help. all the best, love to you, Kathy and Phil Belcher
Thanks for keeping this blog updated, Emily. It means a lot to the many who love your Mom and Dad, and that's a VERY long list.
I'm very sorry for your loss of your grandmother. She touched a lot of lives and was very well loved too...
After the first of the year we can brainstorm ways to put the love of your family to work in a way that will be helpful and good for all concerned. Lots of folks just want to hang with your mom and help with the little things, like flying the TV remote or turning the page of the paper. Others have offered to take turns cooking meals for your family. Still others have offered to get your mom books on tape or other entertainment to help pass the healing time. Give it some thought and discussion as a family and let us know what would be best. Alex Gardner
My husband and I used to work with Marta at Lane County. She was at our wedding, 28 years ago. Please pass on our love and support. We have been praying for her since we heard of her accident. We may be miles apart but she is close in our hearts! Deb and Brice Moomaw

Emily...... Thank you so much for writing to keep everyone up to date. There are so many prayers and love coming your way. Your Mom is one of the smartest and funniest women I have every known and I know she will draw strength and courage from you. I also know you must be so worried about her and missing your Grandma too. Remember to take care of yourself, ok? She will want to know that you are all taken care of while she gets better. lots of love, Katie Arnold
Hello Barclay Family,
I'm thinking of Marta constantly and keeping her in my every thought and prayer. I've known her for nearly 10 years now and I can't think of a time when she hasn't accomplished her goal. She WILL recover from this and no matter what her physical state is, she will always be Marta B, the mother, wife, friend and great leader who is cared for by so many. I sincerely hope that each stretch of her journey towards recovery is filled with good days that far out-number the bad.
You are in my thoughts and prayers as well. I wish you comfort in knowing that your grandmother is now Marta's guardian angel, side by side with your grandfather...guiding her through this journey.
Sending you love and strength,
Cat Colley

Thank you, Emily and Ed for keeping us posted on Marta’s progress. I know it takes time out of your day, but it means so much to us who love and care for her. I have worked with Marta for the past 20 years, and more closely the past 5 years while working on the Motorola project which I am sure by now you are tired of hearing her whine about. After countless meetings to schedule meetings (Marta will find that funny) I got to spend lots of time with her including a week in Cosa Mesa for a conference. Marta is so much fun to hang out with, we got to go to a shopping mall for lunch and a little shopping, and to Disney Land for dinner at the Rain Forrest CafĂ© with the Lane County contingent. When Marta and I have time to visit we always keep each other up to date on our families and what everyone is up to. It is more than obvious that Marta loves and cares for her family tremendously, and is very dedicated to all of you. I am sure by know you have figured out how much she is loved by her work family. I can’t wait to see Marta when she is feeling better and ready for visitors.
Patrick
Dear Ed and family,
Marta and all of you are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. We were devastated to hear the news last Friday morning when we were gathered for Sid's mother's service. Sid has been keeping us posted daily, but now he and Hank are off to China for a couple of weeks, as you well know. I will check the blog daily to follow Marta's progress. It is wonderful of you to do this, Emily. You all have so much strength and Marta needs that right now.
Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your grandmother.
Our love to you all,
Ellie and Cleve Dumdi
Dear Ed,Emily and Michael

we do too.
All my Love

To the Barclay Family,
It is so generous of you to have posted this blog. It is a meaningful outlet for so many of us who share in some aspect of your grief. Please accept my deepest sympathies for the loss of Marta's mother. I already miss seeing your mother at work. Emily I think that you and your brother Michael should know that the two of you are always on the top of her mind every time I see her. The first thing she talks about is family. She asks always asks about my family first and then just glows when she talks about hers. (I have learned, for example, that you love expensive jeans and are willing to work for them and that Michael is a stellar athlete) and it sounds like your dad is a pretty good guy too! Please know that your mom and your entire family will get through this. You will get stronger and the siutation will become easier over time. Your lovely mother and entire family are in the thoughts and prayers of so many people whose lives she touched.

By now you must know that there are thousands out there who care about you, Marta, and are pulling for you in any way we can by thought and on bended knee.
Consider this: a friend of mine answered a dispatch call we all dread, where multiple children were hit on a rural road. While the family was at the hospital with the kids, their landlord (who was related to them) burned their house down! The 9-1-1 community banded together and got them a new place to stay, and made some brightness out of tragedy. Please share your recovery with us, we care.
So sorry to read about your mom, I got the notification through 911 cares. I will remember your mom and the family in our prayers, stay strong and give it all to God, he will be your strength through this very hard time. God Bless each of you, Pat Varley, 911 Dispatch, Livingston, Louisiana

Barclay Family;
I recieved notice of the tragic accident through the retired officers network. I have known Marta since the mid 70's when she was a dispatcher. I have always admired her professionalism and good humor, even in stressful situations. When I retired from the Lane County SO in 2003, a part of the office went with me. Hearing of this accident, it was like hearing my sister was hurt...since Marta was always there to help. Please accept my prayers for her and the rest of the family.
