Sorry everyone im a little late on updating you all. Yesterday was a pretty big day, mom had another surgery. About half of her right foot was amputated and a trach was put in so that the ventilator could be removed and she could still have a little help breathing. We understand from the doctors that the surgery went as well as could be, and her next surgery will be 2 or 3 weeks out. The bone from the foot they took off will eventually be used to fix her right wrist. Today they reduced the amount of sedation she was receiving and her eyes opened and she was much more lucid. She is communicating with us currently through blinking, as she cannot speak due to the trach. Because she is now more awake for the next few days we will limit who is allowed back in the ICU, although we still welcome company in the barclay suite (our very own ICU waiting room). It was great to see her eyes opened and to see her communicate she has been sleeping a lot and is just resting, ill keep you posted.

Emily, Thank you for your posting and updates concerning your Mom. She has so many friends who are thinking about her and praying for her, but do not want to be in the way of family and close friends while decisions are being made at the hospital. Your news keeps us a part of her recovery. I am keeping you all close to my heart. Jennifer Lewis

Emily: Thank you for keeping up on this website. I check it everyday to see the progress of your mom. I worked with your mom for 14 years at LCSO. She is one of folks there that I truly miss. I loved her upbeat, funny, and friendly personality. We talked about our families all the time so in a way, I feel like I know all of you a little. I know this is a very rough time for you and your family. It has been such a great tragedy that I cannot even begin to comprehend the pain your family has faced. I hold Marta close to my heart and have been praying for her recovery daily. By God's grace, I know she will be okay! -- Rhonda Crocker

Ed and family:
We are so sorry for the loss of Marta's mom - she is in our thoughts and prayers.
Marta! I understand she has the strength and courage few others have. She has a long road ahead but I know she will use that strength and courage along with her family's support and encouragement to come through this horrible accident.
Ed - If there is any way I can help, I am ready and willing to do so. All you have to do is let me know what you need.
God bless you all.
