Thursday, April24th

Hi folks, how are you? Ed and I spent a couple of hours seeing all three surgeons at Slocum Center yesterday. After checking the xrays the "leg" doc is very pleased with the bone growth and healing although when asked how long my foot and ankle might be swollen his response (with a smile on his face) was "months". Oh well, it felt great to have the stitches out.

Now the really encouraging news.... the right arm doctor came in with my right wrist xrays absolutely beaming. Things are looking so good that I can now go without my splint and can start to be a little more aggressive with physical therapy. The range of motion is still not there but could be improved after more therapy . The doctor said that things couldn't have looked better and was so pleased that the bone he used from the heel of my right foot (maybe a blessing in losing that foot somewhere ???) was "perfect" in terms of overall healing and bone growth.

Good news from Slocum.. yahoo.

Ah... but not so fast (okay a small cloud on the horizon, not a storm)... How is that right leg doing (prosthetic) you might ask???? Still a pain in the behind but I have another appointment with the guy tomorrow afternoon. We're still trying to get the right fit and from what I'm told this can and usually does take months. I'm into this part of the process about 3 so I have a ways to go.

A special hello to my friends and colleagues at the Sheriff's Office especially those of you that may be facing lay offs. I miss you and am so proud to have been associated with you and the organization. I know it's tough right now but you'll come out on the other side of this budget mess, I promise.

Thank you for those that keep up on the blog. I appreciate your prayers and support.

Warm Regards,
Marta B.

Marta-
I'm so pleased to hear that you are healing so well. I'm sorry it's taking so long for your prosthetic to be fit. It's a surprise that it usually takes months for that. Things around the Sheriff's Office are very somber right now. It's heartbreaking, every day, but also a testament to the fine people working here that they continue to come to work every day and do their jobs as best as they can. I know that we'll get through this, but at what cost is still to be determined. Thank you for thinking of us when you have so much on your plate already. We miss you very much.
Take care of yourself, and no more falling down!
